AllMusic.com labels this endeavor by Sonny Clark as one of his best. Featuring Charlie Rouse on tenor, Tommy Turrentine on trumpet and Billy Higgins on drums, these 7 tracks (8 with an alt take) truly capture the Blue Note Sound. Warren is a stalwart of clear, precise, and rhythmic bass playing. While not as creative as Ray Brown or Ron Carter, Warren was a player that was dependable for clear harmonic structure and great feel. Students would do well to understand how note choice from the bassist is pivotal to making the whole band sound great. Warren takes two short solos on this date but the groove is always present. Sonny Clark would tragically die two years after its release, but luckily we have this gem to remember him by. I hope you enjoy!
