Charlie Mingus plays great lines and solos throughout this cool jazz album along side Elvin Jones on drums and Teddy Charles on vibes in the rhythm section. There are, admittedly, some times in which Mingus’ intonation issues are tough to ignore, specifically on Alone Together (I also left chords out at times due to indiscernible clarity). Still, much can be learned from one of the godfathers of modern bass playing. Many Albums Mingus appears on can be complex and difficult to hear the bass, this album is a rare gem in which I was able to complete of his work.
