This 1991 album from Verve records remains one of my all time favorite albums. Joe Henderson recorded 10 (McBride plays on 7) outstanding takes of timeless Billy Strayhorn compositions. The arrangements are all creative and feature the legendary saxophonist at his best. There are some great pizzicato as well as arco solos for the bass student to learn from. Not to mention playing along with one of the best jazz drummers in the world today, Greg Hutchinson. There are some intonation issues in the bass part; you will notice some quarter flats and sharps at times. I don’t know if that was due to McBride’s bass or the mastering process. Regardless I’m not here to judge. All of McBride’s ideas and lines are amazing and nearly flawless. I hope you enjoy playing along to this album!
