This lovely trio album (piano+vox/bass/guitar) was something I have been meaning to write out for a long time. I personally play with numerous singers in the drummer-less format so I had a lot to learn by absorbing McBride’s feel. He has limited opportunity to solo but he more than makes up for it with his creative triplet lines heard throughout the record. “My Love is” and “I Don’t Know Enough About You” are two standouts. Russell Malone’s guitar comping is also a thing of taste and class. Krall’s body of work is often more exciting than this record but for those of you who want to get better at swinging without a drummer, look no further.
