George Duvivier Bass Part Transcription
George Duvivier Bass Part Transcription
George Duvivier’s bass lines and solos fully transcribed on all 8 tracks from the 1960 Shirley Scott album: Like Cozy on the Prestige Record Label.
George Duvivier just might have been the best swinging bassist of his time had Ray Brown never existed. Both of these men have an unmistakable pulse and feel that lead to their sound being heard on thousands of albums throughout the 20th century. Fans of Shirley Scott, who plays both organ and piano on this record, will hear a sound not unlike Red Garland’s Trio or even a bit of Hank Jones. Though Duvivier’s solos are limited - Deed I Do is the only real full chorus solo on the album with the others being bridges or intros/outros - his time and feel are the essence of what straight-ahead jazz bassists should strive to emulate. The sound quality on this album is fantastic, so all of the bassist’s stylistic inflections, as well as his magnificent intonation will be easily picked up on by the listener. You may notice bassist George Tucker’s name also listed on the album cover; as I understand this record was rereleased on CD many years later as a double-album with Tucker performing the other tracks.
