This 1963 album from the legendary Oscar Peterson Trio is sure to help any bass player learn to play solid, swinging lines, especially over the blues. Ray only takes a couple of solos on the 11 song album, but his use of triplets when walking on the slower tunes show just how musical the bass can be, even when in its typical supporting role. “Honey Dripper” and “Band Call” provided some difficulty when transcribing due to tempo and the range in which Oscar happens to be playing, but overall I’m as satisfied as can be with the quality and accuracy. I highly recommend memorizing the solo on “Night Train” due to its wonderful use of blues licks and overall lack of difficulty. As the great trumpeter Clark Terry once said “Imitate, assimilate, innovate”. One must learn the language of jazz before being able to improve upon it. I hope you enjoy!

Some other recordings with musicians that I was lucky enough to record with over the years.
