Legendary bassist Richard Davis teams up with formidable pianist John Hicks for this ten track duo album from Palmetto Records. Of all the full album transcriptions I’ve done, this was far and away the most difficult. Songs such as Simone and the Eccles Sonata proved extremely difficult to transcribe with accuracy while maintaining legibility. Davis’ arco solos sans drums make placing the exact beat and pitch nearly impossible. So for those of you used to near perfect accuracy from my transcriptions, or anyone else’s for that matter, know before you buy this that there will be many extremely difficult passages to perform and the notation will only act as a reference point. The customer must listen to each track multiple times and attempt to memorize tempos and rhythms in order to get the full use of these pdfs. That being said, this album is full of gorgeous music and any bassist would do well to study Richard Davis for his feel and creativity. I hope you enjoy.

I have never specified this before but NO REFUNDS ON THIS ITEM! The amount of work that went into this could justify a higher price, but due to the inaccuracies of the bowed sections, I couldn’t in good faith charge more. I could have spent the rest of the year trying to make each line as accurate as possible and it would still be loaded with inaccuracies. I encourage everyone to do more listening than reading for the tough songs.

Some other recordings with musicians that I was lucky enough to record with over the years.
