Blue Note records brought these two giants of jazz in the studio for the first time together and the results are surely astounding. Cannonball’s working band of Nat Adderley, Joe Zawinul, Sam Jones and Louis Hayes perform 5 instrumentals after 7 wonderful vocal arrangements. “Save Your Love for Me” is specifically important for bass players to memorize if they want to perform with jazz singers as it has become part of the standard rep. Jones’ feel (especially in the gut string era) is worth trying to mimic as much as possible. Jones is easily in the top 5 of my most influential bass players (to me personally, that is) and I hope you will learn and enjoy from this fantastic, timeless album as well.
